Interactive and Fun Career Expo “Be What You Want” ran for the first time on March 4th, 2011. Be What You Want was organized and run by a volunteer committee who worked in partnership with two local charities, Youth off the Streets and the Salvation Army Oasis Outreach Programme.
On the day, 18 Volunteers and eleven Career stands run by Industry Volunteers made the event a reality. Seventy youth showed up and engaged in fun activities ranging from Hip Hop Dancing to Sushi Classes! The Need: Sydney’s is home to hundreds of young people who do not have a steady, safe and supportive environment. These young people, like all, are full of potential to succeed in life and make a positive contribution. However, they cannot do it without help.
Be What You Want is about Inspiration and building Self Esteem through fun activities and meeting real people in real jobs!
As a team we were touched, moved and inspired by the impact we observed on the youth whom participated and there is a strong momentum to ramp up for many more events of this kind!

Be What You Want runs “INSPOs” which are interactive career expos dedicated to young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
The Be What You Want team are passionately committed to giving young people access to inspiration and ongoing support so that they can build sustainable futures for themselves. Our INSPOs include motivational speakers, business stands conducting hands on and fun activities, often leading on to work experience in that sector.
